Tai Chi

Jon got one of Master Dong's families' t-shirts. So here he is modeling the shirt and showing you a couple of the movements. They all have names, but I don't know what they are yet. ying and yang -
Below, on the back of the shirt, we think this is Master Dong on the left and his grandfather on the right. He learned tai chi when he was 7, he's now 60. It's an interesting group of people, we just love going.

Girls Day Out

Tuesday DeeDee took me out for girl's day! We went to Ala Moana Mall and had a fabulous lunch at Macy's Pineapple Room. Here we are with our waitress, Tanya. If you don't know DeeDee, she makes friends everywhere she goes!
Next to the Mani Pedi Spa to get our nails done. DeeDee makes another friend, Jasmine, the niece of the lady giving me my pedicure. Isn't she precious?

DeeDee & Richard's Visit!

DeeDee and I first met when we were 11 years old! Now she and her husband Richard are visiting me in Hawaii! Who'd have thought it? We are having a fabulous time!

Volcano Park Closed

They closed parts of the Hawaii National Volcano Park yesterday due to earthquakes! I believe they said they had about 250 yesterday. Although mostly small ones, it was an indication of the possibility of an eruption in a new area. They closed the Chain of Craters road that we had driven down, which is in the direction of new lava flow and evacuated campers. I'm glad we're not there now, although I'm sure many are excited about it! Today they were 'only' ten per hour (slowing down from the sometimes 1 per minute yesterday) and they reopened part of it but not all. What a different part of the world that is!
I have company arriving tomorrow! Diane who I've known forever and her sweet hubby Richard! Yeah!!

Tai Chi!

Jon and I have started taking Tai Chi classes! We go 2 nights a week and are taking under instruction of Master Dong. Here is the picture of the Jodo Mission, where the classes are held. (actually we take at the gym next door, but wanted you to see this) We always noticed this church because it is right by the freeway on the way into Honolulu, now we know it is a Buddhist Temple. We peeked inside once, it amazing. We are beginners in Tai Chi, but we both immediately saw the benefit and think we'll continue with this. Of course I can't always understand Master Dong!
Don't know exactly who this is, but this little guy is wearing a cloth cap and what looks like a bib. Notice the orange at his feet and the fresh flowers, red ginger.

King Kamehameha Day

Monday is a state holiday, honoring King Kamehameha I. Friday they had a lei draping ceremony, cloaking his statue with dozens of leis. Each lei had over 500 flowers! We didn't go to the ceremony, but yesterday went down to see it.
