Day 5 - Makapu'u

Monday we walked up the Makapu'u Trail, leading to a view overlooking the lighthouse and Sandy Beach.
Halfway up our walk, it started to rain on us (hard by Hawaii standards) and we got drenched! Once it quit raining, we were quickly dried by the wind. Below we are taking shelter in the pencil cactus grove. (smart Lauren wore a hat!)

On the way back home Jenéll shot this picture through the car, you can see all the waterfalls that are there only when it's rained a lot. These are the Ko'olau Mountains where this island gets the most rain, especially lately. You are not allowed to stop on this road to take pictures.

I love lighthouses - what a cute one. It looks so short! But then again, that looks like quite a treacherous (sp?) walk to get to it!
